Training of Community Volunteers, Health Workers, Traditional Practitioners and Church Pastors on Community-Based Surveillance of Poliomyelitis and Other Vaccine-Preventable Diseases

This training marked a crucial milestone for the CGPP project, building the capacity of 123 CVs, 25 supervisors, 12 church pastors, and 11 traditional healers in Uvira Health Zone, as well as 113 CVs, 26 supervisors, 12 church pastors, and 11 traditional healers in Nundu Health Zone. The trainings aimed to equip these key actors with the skills needed to effectively conduct community-based surveillance of polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases.

Significance of a social mobilization intervention for engaging communities in polio vaccination campaigns

Globally, community engagement is an integral part of most public
health programs and the social mobilization (SM) intervention of India’s polio eradication program is one such example that contributed to eliminating polio from the
country. CORE Group Polio Project (CGPP), a partner of Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) SM
Network executed its activities through a network of social mobilizers called Community Mobilization Coordinators (CMCs).

Health worker and caregiver interaction during child vaccination sessions at health facilities in Somali region of Ethiopia

Somali Region is one of the largest regions in Ethiopia which has performed persistently low
with immunization coverage. Communication during vaccination sessions at health facilities is a key
factors that influence caregiver’s decision to bring back their children for vaccination. The objective of
this study was to assess health worker and caregiver interaction during immunization sessions and
identify communication gaps at health facilities in the Somali region.

Quality of health worker and caregiver interaction during child vaccination sessions: A qualitative study from Benishangul-Gumuz region of Ethiopia

Health workers do not communicate all key immunization messages to caregivers during vaccination sessions. Training health workers in health facilities on the essentials of immunization and interpersonal communication is important to ensure the continued use of the vaccination service by caregivers.
